Ekam

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 September 2026

Everything you write in Ekam — diary entries, photos, reminders, events, lists, activities and money records — is stored only on your own device. The app has no account, no sign-in, and no server of its own, and none of what you write is ever sent anywhere.

The app does show adverts, supplied by Google AdMob. Apart from asking Google Play about updates and about the optional Remove ads purchase, those adverts are the one part of the app that uses the internet, and the ad network collects information of its own — your device’s advertising ID in particular. That is described in full under Advertising below, including how to turn personalised adverts off.

Who this policy is from

This policy covers the Android app Ekam (package com.dj.ekam), referred to below as “the app”. The app is made by N!rvana Labs, the name under which Dipjyoti Dutta develops and publishes apps. N!rvana Labs is a brand name, not a registered company, so the person responsible for the app and this policy is Dipjyoti Dutta. Both are referred to below as “we”.

What the app collects

We collect nothing. There is no account, no server belonging to us, and no analytics or crash-reporting library in the app. Nothing you write is transmitted, and we have no way to read any of it.

The advertising library does collect data, and apart from a purchase you choose to make through Google Play, it is the only component that does. It is Google’s, not ours, and what it gathers is described under Advertising. We never see your diary, your photographs or your money records — the ad network does not either, because nothing in the app hands them to it.

The information you enter stays in the app’s private storage on your device:

None of this is readable by us or by anyone else. It is held in the app’s own storage area, which Android keeps private to the app.

Photos

When you attach photos to a diary entry, the app uses Android’s system photo picker. That picker hands the app only the images you chose — the app has no permission to read your photo library, and cannot browse it. You can select several at once, and each one becomes its own dated entry.

You can also send a photo to Ekam from another app using Android’s share sheet. This works the same way: the app receives only the picture you sent, and only for as long as it takes to save it. It gains no access to anything else in the app you shared from.

Either way the image is copied into the app’s private storage, so the entry still shows it if the original is later moved or deleted. Deleting the entry deletes that copy. Only still photographs are accepted — videos and GIFs are refused rather than stored as a single frame.

Permissions, and why each one exists

PermissionWhy the app asks for it
POST_NOTIFICATIONS To show your reminders and the monthly holiday digest.
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM So a reminder set for 9:00 arrives at 9:00 rather than whenever the system next decides to run background work.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED To re-arm your reminders after the phone restarts. Without it, every alarm would be silently lost on a reboot.
USE_BIOMETRIC / USE_FINGERPRINT For the optional app lock. Authentication is performed entirely by Android; the app is told only whether it succeeded, and never receives your fingerprint, face or device PIN.
INTERNET / ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE To fetch adverts, and for nothing else. No part of the app sends your entries, photographs or records anywhere.
AD_ID The device advertising ID, used by the ad network to choose which adverts to show and to count them. See Advertising; you can reset or delete this ID from your Android settings at any time.
BILLING For the optional one-time purchase that removes adverts. The payment is handled entirely by Google Play; the app is told only the price and whether you own the purchase. See Google Play.
ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS, FOREGROUND_SERVICE, WAKE_LOCK Added automatically by Google’s advertising library, which uses them for Android’s Privacy Sandbox and for its own background work. They are listed here for completeness — the app’s own code does not use any of them.

The app requests no location, contacts, SMS, microphone or camera permission.

When information leaves your device

Only when you deliberately send it, and only to a destination you choose:

Advertising

The app shows adverts supplied by Google AdMob. Apart from the Google Play checks, this is the only part of Ekam that connects to the internet, and the only part that collects anything about how you use the app.

What the ad network collects

When an advert is requested, Google receives information from your device. Google, not us, decides what that is and how it is used; at the time of writing it includes:

Google’s handling of this is governed by its own policies, not ours: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and the AdMob privacy information.

What the ad network never receives

Nothing you write. Your diary entries, photographs, reminders, events, lists, activity logs and money records are never sent to Google or to anyone else. The app contains no code that passes any of them to the advertising library, and the advertising library has no access to the app’s private storage.

Your choices

What we will not do

These are limits on the app itself, checked by an automated test that fails the build if any of them is broken:

Google Play: updates and the Remove ads purchase

Updates. When the app opens, it asks the Google Play Store app on your phone whether a newer version is available, so it can offer you the update. Google Play answers from what it already knows about the apps installed from it; the app sends nothing of its own.

Remove ads. The app may offer a one-time purchase that removes its adverts. If you buy it, the payment is handled entirely by Google Play, under Google’s Privacy Policy. We never receive your card, UPI or bank details. The app only asks Google Play for the price and whether you own the purchase, and remembers that answer on your device so the adverts stay hidden. Google Play gives us the sales records it gives every developer — for example the order number, the product, the price and the country.

Children

The app is not directed at children, and we collect no information from anyone. Adverts are requested with Google’s content rating set to General audiences, so the adverts shown are limited to material suitable for all ages.

Keeping and deleting your information

Because nothing you write is sent to us, there is nothing for us to keep or delete. You control that data entirely:

Information held by the ad network is a separate matter, and it is not ours to delete. Reset or remove your advertising ID from Android Settings → Privacy → Ads, and use Google My Ad Center to see and change what Google holds against it.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Material changes take effect with the release that introduces them, so the policy always describes the version of the app you are running — the introduction of advertising, described above, was made in exactly that way.
